Balefire will be taking Improved Familiar at 5th or 7th level.

I want to build the familiar that the party NEEDS.

My objective: Use this thread to as a drawing board to 'flesh out' Lady. Cool

Help me build Lady

Here is where I'm at:

Option #1 (get at 7th)
Faerie dragon http://archivesofnethys.com/MonsterDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Faerie%20Dragon
-- honestly, My favorite choice from a rollplaying standpoint. As she has that type of personality and already is a 'little dragon'. A very easy choice. BTW, Faerie dragons are powerful familiars. ie. they are sorcerers.

Option #2 (get at 5th)
Aether Elemental http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/outsiders/elemental/elemental-aether/aether-elemental-small
-- these things are sorta humanoid, talk, ect...
they have NASTY telekinetic abilities... in short they use TK like the spell at the masters level.
They will toss stuff, bull rush, TK manipulate.... maybe OP
Are invisible.

After a weekend of research...

I think the Fairy Dragon is the way to go.

But, we are stuck with a compy until 7th level. Very Happy

Arc type: Emissary http://archivesofnethys.com/ArchetypeDisplay.aspx?FixedName=Familiar%20Emissary

Athi votes for the dragon - it creeps her out much less than the pseudo invisible cloudy thing with boobies.

I wish Faerie Dragon wasn't always the choice. It's ridiculously powerful though so I understand why. Urza had one so, it's kind of something we've already seen. I'm not saying don't pick it, but there may be some others you can consider that would be more flavorful.

You know I have been working on that for awhile.

Here is what Im looking for: (if I am investing a feat into it.)

Must be smart.
needs a basic humanoid shape (ie can use gear, has hands)
be able to stay out of danger. (can fly, be invisible...etc..)
Can speak

As for the flavor...

Balefire works with the elements, is an evoker, deals with raw energy.

[this is where I found the Aether Elemental to line up a bit.]
Mephits are 'ok'

--- it is a shame there is not a little genie or something like that

A lightning mephit might be interesting.

I has an odd weakness

is medium

But, would be more flavorful match for Balefire.

Hey Allen not sure if this helps you or not but Athi 5.0 will be taking Sacred Summons and being the lawful good type will throw out Latern Archons. She will be doing that for a few levels until she can get MS IV in which case she'll let the hound archons out.

Well, the familiar has a different roll than summoned creatures.

But, sadly im still looking for the right fit.

Familiars to consider:

Mephits: All of the Mephits are good, some are even really good.
Silvanshee Agathion: doesn't have hands (though Polymorph familiar can fix that), but has Truespeech/Speak with Animals and loads of handy abilities. I see no reason that he couldn't use scrolls to be honest. Makes an exceptional scout and could even save your life via its STR (11 with boost) Lay on Hands, Stabilize. Commune is ridiculously good.
Lyrakian Azata: I don't have to tell you how good these are. they may be the best in the game tbh.
Cat Sith: Pretty high CHR and speaks common so could use scrolls and a few other items. SEE INVIS constantly. Speak with Animals is far better than it sounds. Fasle Curse and No Luck are ruinous through mid levels. Can't fly, but could via magic.
Tidepool Dragon: If your alignment matches up, he's not bad and could use wands (I think all dragons should be able to tbh). Has a swim speed that could be handy. Is a natural grappler which, with some magical aid, could be useful at some point (in theory).
Hellfire Ignis: He's a small familiar that could be evolved to deliver evil touch spells, exploit AoOs, etc. Could use just about any magic item. Not a natural flyer, but has pretty high stealth and could fly via magic later. Very much in flavor with your character.
Pookha: Vastly underrated (this from first hand experience)
Nosoi Psychompomp: Logic says that these little guys should be able to use the scrolls they can write. Perfect scouts.
Sprite: Available at 5th level and can do just about anything you'd want an improved familiar to do. At wiil Detect Evil and light source are both pretty darned handy.

So, yeah, you get more choices as an Evil doer, but all of these are quite good and very different than the Fairy Dragon. Improved Familiars are so good that, you really don't have to Min Max them to get a lot out of them.

Thanks for the reply...

I think im going to stay away from dragons, forest fey types, and angels...

Balefire is NOT a subtle guy. He deals with raw power

I like running with the elemental powers...

That leaves me with Elementals, Mephits, and the Hellfire Ignis.

I did not notice the Hellfire Ignis. -- good find!
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/fey/hellfire-ignis

- Very interesting.... flavorful too. fits a lot of what im looking for.

Of the Mephits http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/outsiders/mephit

Question Are the lightning, smoke legal for play... ??? Question
I am sorta favoring the lightning elemental too

If they're in Hero Labs and Piezo-created, then certainly, yes.
