@ Overdog,

Yes, I'm taking into account our rather large group so unless I really juice the encounters to make them APL equivalent, they should be OK without a dedicated Healbot Cleric.

@ Purple Knight,

There's a reason people use wands for that. No AoO. It's possible to trigger an AoO from someone "in your face" if the spell in question is a Ranged Attack spell (like the various rays) that requires a roll to hit. I don't believe that would happen with an MM. That's my recollection from reading the FAQ. Wands are uber-efficient for the money.

@ Vim,

I'd skip the craft potion feat as it's probably not worth a feat by my estimation. They're not all that cost effective really. Also, spellcraft is the skill for making magic items.

I have been thinking of a fighter, cleric, or Paladin. Thought about a ranger or barbarian. Really still up in the air.

After playing Pathfinder for a bit, either a Fighter/Thief or a Fighter/Cleric sound like really fun and powerful class combinations to play in my view. Either way they pack a lot of punch in the PF rule system. Cool

As much as I'd like to jump into this game, if I do I can't say that I'll be able to play every weekend as I have a lot on my plate at this point since I am currently dealing with both my mother's and father's estates and occasionally have to work on weekends as well to make up for that (I pulled an all nighter Sunday night after the Redskins game just to keep one of my clients satisfied). We will see but if I play I may not be able to play consistently... Question

If nobody else ends up playing a cleric maybe we can have a sub cleric along for the ride? (or even one played by the GM? - its been a while since Tony played an NPC ally and I know he enjoys that sort of thing) Question

@ Mike - I've played a couple of Barbarians in 3.0/3.5 and I have to say they are a blast - I say go for it... You can even multiclass into other things if you want to (Hraal the Reaver was a Hudan Viking Fighter/Thief who I had great fun with in Tony's Braxus campaign for a while)... Cool Heck, a Ranger/Barbarian would be sick!!! (a lot of synergy between those two classes - stealth, survival, tracking, etc.) Wink

If you want to dodge out Dan, that's fine. I understand that you're very busy right now (which is a good thing). Alternatively, if you simply want to play a character who plays periodically, either one of those characters would be fine.

As for healing and the like, remember that for much of this journey, you'll have the services of old Koya; a cleric of Desna. I am tempted to roll up a DM-controlled ally who could tag along on nights when the group is shorthanded. Given that for much of the story, you're accompanying a caravan, it makes some sense.

Here is where I typically chime in and volunteer to play a second character, particularly if we are talking about a cleric, but given that this is my first PF game, I don't think it be a good idea. Still, after a few games if the party wants or needs it then I am certain I can work it out.

@ Derrick,

There will likely be ample opportunities to play one of the 4 NPCs. This is a story line campaign (everyone on-board for the choo choo train) and it should be thought of as something similar to the Fellowship of the Ring with the PCs playing the roles of the "doers". The NPCs are generally there as support. In a funny sort of way, they slip in and out of the story.

Urza Soutzos
1st level Wizard Universalist (Arcane Crafter)
15 point buy: 8 STR, 12 DEX, 12 CON, 20 INT, 10 WIS, 7 CHA
Race: Human Wizard favored class (Human Alt bonus- extra spell)
Alignment: Still thinking that one over...
Feats: Scribe Scroll, Improved Init, Spell Focus (Conjuration)
Traits: Hedge Magician, Friend of the Family (NPC Koya)
Familiar: Green Init Scorp (named Baxter)
AC: 11 (15 with Mage Armor Running)
HP: 7
Initiative: + 9

An old friend of the Mvashti family, Urza recently arrived in the Sandpoint area to pay his respects to old Koya. Having heard rumors of her decaying health, he has been surprised to find her as spry as ever, speaking mysteriously of a long journey that she would be undertaking. She has said little of the details, but Urza feels compelled to be at the ready as a guard for the old woman. In the interim, the young artificer has befriended a rag-tag group of young adventures who are looking to make a name for themselves in Sandpoint. He's betting that in the due course of time, they'll welcome his ability to create magical oddities and curios, commissioning him from time-to-time to make specialty items and the like.

EDITED final abilities.

Cool stuff. Does Urza come from Numeria? He looks like it, and I know you say no archtypes, but he also looks like a cool Spellslinger from Ultimate Combat. Just a thought about his appearance Smile

Also Tony, I hate to say that I already managed my inventory a while back. I rolled the wizard starting money and bought some necessary things for the adventure. Is that cool or do I need to redo his inventory. Also, is food necessary for this campaign?

Urza is from nearby Magnimar, though spent time abroad as a child. His father was a modestly successful trader and allowed the young lad to travel with him on occasion. So, he's spent some time outside of Varisia. He is a tinkerer and artificer, fond of clockwork items and the like. The image would represent him at the close of the AP (if he makes it that far).

As long as your total gp spent on gear didn't go beyond the 150 limit. Food and rations will be needed at times, but I wouldn't worry about it at first. You can also buy limited magic items with your money.

Hattori Kaijitsu
1st level Ninja
15 point buy: 10 STR, 18 DEX, 12 CON, 10 INT, 8 WIS, 14 CHA
Race: Human (Tian-Min) Ninja favored class
Deity Shelyn
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Feats: 2 weapon Fighting, Weapon Finesse
Traits: anatomist, younger-sibling (NPC Ameiko_Kaijitsu)
AC: 16 (leather armor)
HP: 10
Initiative: + 4

Hattori has spent most of his youth busing tables and working in the kitchen of the Rusty Dragon. He knows little of his family other than his sister/guardian Ameiko.
Hattori is growing increasingly bored and impatient with having nothing more to look forward to than another table to bus or meal to prepare. If the chance to go on an epic voyage or a grand adventure ever presented itself, Hattori would walk away from the Rusty Dragon to seek his fortune in a heartbeat.

At some point, I'll do Hero Lab versions of the characters so you can have a pdf available. I can store them in a folder on my Google Drive and update them as the campaign goes along. Hero Lab does a good job of checking your math (often in your favor) and is totally worth it for a DM.

Characters look good so far.

Derrick, you might simply pick one of the common Good deities (Desna, Iomedae, or Sarenrae) or possibly Nethys the God of Magic. Another option (which I chose for my Elf Ninja in RotR) is the Elven Pantheon and that makes sense for the "not all that devout" Forlorn Elf types.

Google Drive with Jade Regent PCs

You can see I made a few changes to Urza's abilities.

The story of Shin'mir Sha'shahar

Anghar grew up within the harsh and unforgiving Ulfen city of Kalsgard, an orphan, a thief, and a drunk. He made his way through most of his life by drinking and brawling and then gambling his earnings away. Oddly enough even growing up within the “savage” city he always kept his cool and even though he was pushed to his limits many times he always found a level of serenity that allowed him to stay alive. He found himself venerating Cayden Cailean and became a very good brewer. It always seemed that whenever he drank the ale he brewed he always felt as if Cayden had a hand in the brewing and it always gave him a strange strength of will he could never explain. As he grew older he realized that he needed to change his ways or he was going to end up drunk and then dead in the dark alleys of Kalsgard. So one day when he was at his favorite watering hole a strange traveler from a distant land started to talk to him about a path that he could take that would not only bring him some peace but it would teach him to master his mind, spirit and body. Intrigued Anghar took the strangers challenge and cast off all his earthly possessions and started training day and night. The stranger never gave him his name and after several years of intense training he declared that he was going to head back to his home on the other side of the world. He told Anghar that he must rename himself to reflect his new path in life. Anghar chose Shin’mir Sha’shahar and the stranger just chuckled at him and as he was leaving told him if he ever manages to get to Minkai, to seek him out in the Tsu Zau Na Monks of the Wall of Heaven.

Shin’mir tried to stay his path and he did continue his training but the lure of the drink was too much and one night after a long binge he found himself in the hold of a ship heading south. As his memory came back to him he vaguely remembered boasting of his skills and besting several men in an alley way who offered him a job. They said it would test his skills to the limit and he would be paid handsomely for it. Apparently, the men assumed that Shin’mir would be out for many hours but his alcohol tolerance was significant and he made his way quietly through the shadows to the deck of the ship. He overheard black garbed men speaking in Tien (the language that the stranger taught him) and heard them say they part of the Frozen Shadow Ninjas and they intended to use Shin’mir and the handful of other mercenaries they hired to create a distraction so they could end the line of the Amatatsu clan. Appalled, Shin’mir almost attacked them right there but realized it would be best to wait for a better time.

As the ship moored in the small town of Sandpoint Shin’mir realized this would be his chance. When the men “woke” him they told him he would be paid 200 gold if started a brawl in the Rusty Dragon Inn. Realizing that their target must be in the inn he decided to wait to try and stop them there. That night at the inn they gave him the signal and he started a fight. He saw three of the men disappear from sight (they literally vanished) and he saw the door to back of the establishment open. He expertly moved his way through the fight and followed the men. As he entered the back room he heard a women’s cry and he sprang into action. In the dark store room he could barely make out the 3 men circling a woman and he leapt through the air and caught one in the back of neck killing him instantly, the second turned to face him and the third faced off with the woman who now had a gleaming rapier in her hand. The one who faced him had a kama in his hand, glistening with poison. He lunged at Shin’Mir who escaped the brunt of the attack but the blade barely scrapped his skin. He could feel his senses blurring but managed to leap into the air wrapping his legs around the neck of the figure and flinging him into some stacked casks of ale which fell down and broke the neck of his assailant. Shin’mir hit the ground hard and as he lay there he saw the women skewer the last enemy through the throat. Before he passed out from the poison managed to gulp down some of the most delicious ale he had ever tasted from the spilled cask and managed to stay conscious long enough to smell the sweet scent of honey suckles as the woman bent down to aid him but then everything went black.

He awoke in the bed of the inn and when he came downstairs he was greeted by the inn keeper a stunning woman named Ameiko who simply asked him how he slept. Groggily, he responded well but when he asked her what happened that night she just responded by saying a typical barroom brawl and her staff helped him to his room after he passed out from too much drink. Not feeling inclined to ask her more he simply sat down at the bar and she brought him some that of that wonderful ale. He rarely left that stool (except when training) and years later, when Ameiko had gathered a group of faithful friends and adventurers to escort her home across the world to claim the throne of the Jade Regent did he finally find out about her lineage and that it was her that the assassins were after that night all along. He pledged his life then and there to her and that was only the beginning of their adventures.

Updated character.

@ Weasel,

Yeah, that's my intention, but I need details and it may be easier to do it over Vent. If you type out your stuff that would work. Or, alternatively, you could try THIS fill-able PDF, store it on Google Docs and I can work from that to complete it in Hero Builder.
