With the complexity of Pathfinder's feat choices, I thought I'd start a thread on feat progression.
Nothing is set in stone and remember you can retrain some things during downtime. This thread should act as a good sounding board for future character development.

Balefire

Bēlōr/Balefire was born to an adventuring party’s Shoanti Ranger and Shoanti Sorcerer. Bēlōr was orphaned at age 12 when his parents were killed. A surviving party member not knowing what to do with the young Varisian boy so far from his home, turned him over to Absalom wizard academy, fully paid his tuition, and departed.

In the great city of Absalom, he was taught by the wisest masters on Golarion, but treated poorly by the other students who saw him as 'Shoanti barbarian'. This treatment by his peers, led Bēlōr to develop a resilient streak in this personality; he often repaid them in class combats. As a magical prodigy, he delved into lessons of the arcane deeper than the other students in Absalom academies, and succeeded to the point that even his instructors were suspicious of him.

Balefire is an elegant version of a Shoanti man with largely unalloyed character flaws/ faults. He is described as being very thin, slightly below average height, handsome, and tanned, with grey eyes and long black hair. Emotionally, he is courageous, intelligent, loyal, and steadfast. He is presented as behaving ethically in most situations, except when seeking vengeance or under the motivation of grief. When presented with a situation where a weaker individual or party is being preyed upon by a stronger foe, Balefire invariably takes the side of the weaker party. In dealing with other men (non-Shoanti), Balefire is firm and forceful. With friends, he is reserved but deeply loyal and generous. As a host, he is, likewise, generous and gracious. As a leader, he commands devoted loyalty.

In keeping with these noble Shoanti characteristics, Balefire's philosophy embraces an extreme form of "return to nature". Although he is able to pass within society as a civilized individual, he prefers to "strip off the thin veneer of civilization". His preferred dress is a spiked shoanti gauntlet and tribal robe, his preferred abode is the open desert, and his favored food is well done meat, killed by himself; even better if he is able blast it several times just to tenderize it a bit.

He has recently returned home to the Sklar-Quah (The Sun Clan), earned his adult name, and taken his spot among the shaman caste. To his people he is known as "Bēlōr of fēower Fȳrs" ,"Bale of Four Fires" or simply "Balefire". His name reflects his mastery over the 4 basic elements and the terrible power he wields..

@Overlord:

I'm playing a Magus.

10th Level: Fighter Training
"Starting at 10th level, a magus counts 1/2 his total magus level as his fighter level for the purpuse of qualifying for feats. If he has levels in fighters, these levels stack".

So, at 10th level, the Magus is considered a 5th level fighter for the purposes of qualifying for feats.

Cool...good to know. I never go that high when I played mine and I missed that 10th level ability.

@ Tony,

As far as the crafting of a wand for Uzra at 25% profit, I am fine with that. Or we can maybe work on an exchange of items at cost as he is going to get craft wonderous item at about the same time (actually a couple of levels earlier).

I am actually up in the air on Improved Crit and may trade that out for Persistant Spell at that time. I'm still debating.

I just realized I did my feats per 3.5, not pathfinder.

So: My 5&6 feats are both taken at 5th level, weapon focus at 7th, a tbd metamagic feat at 9th, specialization at 10, improved crit at 11, and then I will need to think on the 13th, and two 15th level feats.

ADMIN NOTE: I've opened this thread up so we can kibitz about other Pathfinder Adventure Path builds.

Mithronil Wisewind
Aasimar Bard/Magus/Arcane Savant

This guy is a fluff ball character with the intention of making a generic Istari for the Golarion setting. He's part Saruman, part Gandalf, part Radogast no flashy magic much, just the effects that you see in the films and in the books. Role within the party is Buff, Support and knowledge/skill monkey.

Traits: Serpent Runner (Campaign trait reduces 2 weapon fighting penalty by 1), Reactionary (needs to go pretty high in the init order to get Inspire Courage going)
1st lv 2-weapon fighting (so he can eventually fight a bit with sword and staff, not well of course, but magic will help quite a bit)
3rd lv Craft Wondrous items (most efficient way to grow his number of known Bard spells)
5th lv Magical Aptitude (sucky feat needed for pretty awesome prestige class)
7th lv Silent Spell
9th Lv Heavenly Radiance (looks fun)
11th Lv Maybe Heavenly Radiance again if it turns out to be cool, maybe something else.
No idea beyond this, though I get a freebie feat at 5th level Magus if I dip that far (which I may).

Any thoughts?

Sounds like Gandalf to me! Though have you considered that ambidextrous feat? Is it in Pathfinder?

@Tony

What is your class progression with your Bard? Why are you taking Magus? It seems a bit redundant in terms of arcane spell casting even though you will get access to more offensive arcane spells unless your concept is to go Bard 5th (to get inspire courage to +2), Magus 1st, and then hit Arcane Savant at 7th and then just increase the Magus's spell casting levels and not the bards.

@ Jeff,

It's a mess. I'm taking Bard primarily for the knowledge skills (and others) and Inspire Courage (and other fine oratory performances since that's what Saruman, etc. really do; they use their voices a lot).

Magus is redundant, but 2 (possibly 3 levels) levels gets me the ability to wield sword and staff (OK, rapier and staff), do some nifty spell combat with a wand stuck in my staff (if I take it to 3rd level). Of course, that can be accomplished via a 1st level bard spell, so WTH, I may just limit myself to Magus 2. The staff and sword thing is purely a fluff ball concept, but with True Strike and or Shocking Grasp, I think I can make a reasonable flanking buddy for Hraal. This after a round of "I gave you the chance of aiding me willingly, but you have elected the way of pain" and a 2nd round of buffing or de-buffing. In most combats, I'm wading in on the 3rd round of combat so you and Hraal should have made a proper mess of things by then.

The more I think of it, the Storm Druid does some positively cool Istari things. It may be better to forget about the Prestige Path altogether and just go:

Songhealer Bard 12/Staff Magus 2/Storm Druid 6

With my Aasimar favored class tricks, that means Inspire Courage would be treated as if I'm 18th lv Bard (+4 to everything meaningful), Inspire Greatness also as an 18th lv Bard (buff the Hell out of 4 friends), all cool stuff really. Aasimar's are sort of the final word in Istar... er, I mean, Bards. Of course, taking a few levels in Storm Druid allows me to talk to animals, send animal messengers and other Radagasty things, while spontaneously throwing some weak lightning bolts around like Saruman.

Yes, I know, it's a completely goofy character, but I'm going to have fun playing him and making him work. The Druid idea seems far more complementary to what I'm trying to achieve with him, and will make him much better in supporting the party I think. Timely Inspiration and Saving Finale will actually come online pretty soon, so in addition to the Inspire Courage and excellent healing support, I bet he'll be a welcome addition to the group. Wink

Feat progress now would be:

1st lv-2-weapon fighting
3rd lv-Craft Wondrous
5th lv-Silent Spell
7th lv-Heavenly Radiance
9th lv and beyond- Open for suggestions, probably take a look at some Bard-specific feats, maybe False Focus, or even Craft Staff so I can make a cool Gandalf/Saruman staff, maybe others not sure

OK - I know its a cool Gandalfy thing to do (wield a sword and a staff using the two weapon fighting feat) and that you are the GM and can adjust / house rule it how you want, but a staff is listed as a two handed weapon. Just sayin... Wink Question

I guess you need to take monkey grip too... lol Laughing

Just had a look at some of the Bard-friendly feats and damn, there are some good ones:

Arcane Strike, Discordant Voice, Lingering Performance, and Spellsong all have quite a bit of potential. I'll probably sang a couple of those starting at 9th level.
