The John Eric Holmes original Basic D&D manuscript has surfaced - there are slight changes in the finished product but they aren't very drastic. Very cool! This was the first version of D&D I ever played and the first dungeon I ever delved into was the sample dungeon in the back entitiled the Tower of Zenopus. Check it out:

Black Blade publishing has also released a book entitled Tales of Peril which is a collection of Holmes fiction complete with illustrations. This includes the adventures of Boinger and Zareth which were published in Dragon Magazine as short stories, and the re-printing of his paperback book of the gonzo campaign he ran for his kids playing Boinger and Zareth entitled The Maze of Peril. I read the book a while back and it's quite entertaining - very gonzo (a centaur PC or NPC, a ware shark, Dagonites (frog people), Amazons, Vikings, a baby basilisk in a wizards tower etc.). They delve into the underdark which was also created by the Ancient civilization of dubious origin that is mentioned in the prelude to the Tower of Zenopus adventure. Plus there is some bonus material in there and some new illustrations as well... Cool Twisted Evil

I'll be ordering one from Black Blade later today or tomorrow.

Here's the original version of the map for comparison:

I used that map for the boys to kill goblins who had raided their village back years ago. Love the Old School stuff.
